Wineries & Dining
Wineries, Breweries & Distilleries
The Hermann area wineries are the heart of soul of Missouri wine country. Hermann’s rich history began in 1837 when German settlers from Philadelphia, landed in this area along the Missouri River because of its resemblance to the Rhine Valley in their homeland. The resourceful Germans were inspired by the wild grapevines growing on the rocky hillsides and soon were planting grapes and making wine.
By the 1900, the wineries were hugely successful, winning Gold medals at World’s Fair competitions and producing 3 million gallons of wine a year. Prohibition in 1919 hit Hermann hard, but the German’s survived and today, the wine industry is once again thriving.
